Jenks Voters Defeat 3 out of 4 Propositions
2.10.2010
Voters in Jenks said "no" to two bond issues and a sales tax increase Tuesday.
Proposition 1, which provides matching funds for federal highway funds, was the only issue to pass.
It received 56 percent of the vote, 347-271.
Proposition 2, which was a $1.5 million bond issue that would have remodeled the old DPS building for the police department and remodeled public works facilities, failed with 291 votes for the measure and 314 against.
Proposition 3, which was a $3.85 million sales tax initiative would have funded new fire trucks as well as water and sewer improvements with a three-quarter cent sales tax increase, failed with 295 votes for, 314 against.
Proposition 4, which would have permanently increased the sales tax rate to 3.75 cents on the dollar and would have provided the city with the funds to accomplish proposition three's goals, failed 248-362.
